The Elder Scrolls Online's Seasons of the Worm Cult will introduce a number of new bells and whistles to fans of the game. Not only will players be able to explore a whole new region, but they'll also have to contend with the return of the Worm Cult, otherwise known as The Order of The Black Worm. While the first part of this update won't show off all the tricks the faction has up their sleeves, players will be able to explore the western part of Solstice, an island crawling with the cult's operatives.

The Worm Cult is already prevalent within the world of The Elder Scrolls Online, as well as within the rest of the franchise. In the latest update, the player will discover the group's new hub on the island of Solstice, as well as the many trials the cult has put in place. Fans who have already dealt with the cult may need to catch up on the Order's previous activities, whereas new players (who will still be able to interact with Solstice) will still want a primer on their activities.

The Worm Cult's Lore

The Order of The Black Worm are practitioners of The Elder Scrolls' necromancy magic, one that sets itself in opposition to the Mages Guild. Marking themselves with pentagrams, their souls damned for their dark deeds, the Order acts to uphold the evil aims of its leader, Mannimarco.

Mannimarco has been a player in the world of The Elder Scrolls for some time now, making an appearance in lich form all the way back in Daggerfall. There, Mannimarco sought the Mantella to make himself a god, something he's accomplished within the canon of The Elder Scrolls Online. In ESO, prior to the Worm Cult's latest escapade, the player will have tangled with the cult's attempt to aid Molag Bal—one of The Elder Scrolls' evil gods. It was in this altercation that Mannimarco was forced to vanish, taken by Molag Bal followed by an attempt to betray the wicked deity. Nonetheless, the Order of The Black Worm remains a blight on the world of The Elder Scrolls.

Seasons of The Worm Cult's Additions

ESO's Seasons of The Worm Cult will serve as a sequel to what happened with Molag Bal at Coldharbour (though new players will still be able to tag along). The island of Solstice will at first appear with the trappings of a paradise, but the machinations of the Order will be lying just underneath. The player must rally their allies and contend with numerous factions to thwart the cult's schemes and reclaim the island for its inhabitants.

Following the decline of Mannimarco, founder of the cult's dark design, a new upstart is the one heading these operations. The player will have to contend with Wormblood, a new force of charisma that's taken control of the cult following the power vacuum. However, fans won't be able to contend with Wormblood right away. They will have to wait for the Writhing Wall to be torn down, which will reveal the eastern side of Solstice and Wormblood's base of operations. The Writhing Wall will remain in place for the launch of Seasons of the Worm Cult, but players will be able to unite later this year in the game's first server-wide event to take the wall down. Then, Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 2 will allow the player to enter Eastern Solstice and take down Wormblood's operation.
